Professor Ackbar Abbas will hold two days of intensive seminars, each lasting two hours, to discuss Second New Wave Taiwanese Cinema, as part of the “I Sing While Walking: Tsai Ming-Liang’s Stories and Songs” event series, while delving into mimetic memory creation via filmic landscapes. A professor of comparative literature at the University of California, Irvine Ackbar Abbas was previously the chair of comparative literature and a co-director of the Centre for the Study of Globalization and Cultures at the University of Hong Kong, China. His research interests include globalisation, Hong Kong and Chinese culture, architecture, cinema, post colonialism, and critical theory. His book Hong Kong: Culture and the Politics of Disappearance was published by the University of Minnesota Press in 1997. He also served as a Contributing Editor to Public Culture, an academic journal published by Duke University Press.
